McKinney-Vento (Homeless) Resources
Handbook and Application
Background
The McKinney-Vento Act defines the educational rights and protections for children and youth who are experiencing homelessness. It mandates that each state and local educational agency ensure these students have immediate and equal access to the same high-quality public education as their housed peers. Additionally, homeless children and youth shall have immediate access to the curriculum and any supportive services needed to ensure that they have an opportunity to be successful in school.
Antelope Union High School District #50 is committed to ensuring that homeless children in the AUHSD community have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as provided to other children in our district, and we will work to eliminate barriers to a homeless child’s enrollment. Homeless students are never singled or separated on the basis of their homelessness from other students. Students and their families who are homeless and who experience any difficulty obtaining access to education or other district services are encouraged to contact the district's Building Principal/Homeless Liaison. You may also be referred to the Liaison by school personnel.
